Re-Opening of Schools
Our District and the Board of Education on July 28 approved a 2020-2021 Re-Entry Plan that provides two options for families: 100% virtual learning or a 5-phase gradual return to 100% face-to-face learning. The first day of school will be Tuesday, September 1 and ALL students K4-12 will start with 100% virtual learning from home.
The District and Board of Education reviewed coronavirus data during a Work Session on Tuesday, September 8 at 5:30 p.m. and determined starting on September 21 (Phase 2), students in Grades K4-5, 6 and 9 can return to school two days a week and learn virtually three days a week, while students in Grades 7, 8 and 10-12 continue with all virtual learning. The Re-Entry Plan further details three more phases to return more students to school and for more days, which will be dependent on the state of coronavirus in the community.
When considering the proximity of a school environment, the contacts and exposures grow exponentially, and quickly.
We continue to closely monitor the situation with our School Nurses and Milwaukee County Health Departments, as well as review updates from the Wisconsin Department of Health Services, Department of Public Instruction and the CDC. Here is the latest information on confirmed cases in Wisconsin. Here is The North Shore Health Department's August Return to School Letter.
The DPI has created a resource for parents and guardians regarding the return to schooling. COVID-19 is still spreading in Wisconsin communities—which means it is still a threat to your health. We care about you and your family’s health. So while the virus is still new, we worked with our state, local, and federal partners to give you the best information we have.
