Jamie Sims comes to serve as the new High School Principal as an accomplished educational leader, educator, coach, and community advocate with more than two decades of experience serving students, schools, and communities.
Jamie began his career in education in his home state of Georgia, where he served from 2004 to 2015 as a teacher, coach, and bus driver. During this time, he taught both at the high school and elementary levels, instructing students in health, physical education, and advanced strength and conditioning. He also served as a special education co-teacher in English Language Arts and History during his early years at Madison County High School and Hull-Sanford Elementary School, developing a passion for creating inclusive learning environments where every student could thrive.
In 2015, Jamie relocated to Madison, Wisconsin, where he began his educational leadership journey with the Madison Metropolitan School District. He served as Dean of Students before becoming Principal of Black Hawk Middle School, leading the school for three years and focusing on student achievement, positive school culture, and equitable educational opportunities. During this time Mr. Sims saw drastic improvements in student achievement and overall school culture and climate. Jamie was awarded by the district for being an “Agent for Change” for his equity focused leadership efforts along with his unapologetic stance on race and equity and its importance in education.
In 2020, Jamie transitioned to the Middleton-Cross Plains Area School District as the District Administrator for Athletics and Activities. Over the next five years, he led one of Wisconsin’s premier athletic programs, overseeing a period of remarkable success. Under his leadership, Middleton High School earned 14 WIAA State Championships, including a historic 2024 season in which the school tied the Wisconsin state record by capturing five state championships in a single year. In recognition of his exceptional leadership and contributions to student athletics, Jamie received the Madison Area Sports Hall of Fame Special Achievement Award in 2024.
That same year, Jamie was inducted into the Hall of Fame at his alma mater in Georgia, honoring his accomplishments as both a former student-athlete and coach.
In 2025, Jamie became the principal for the Milwaukee Academy of Science High school.
Beyond K-12 education, Jamie has also been committed to developing future educators and leaders. From 2017 to 2023, he served as an Assistant Professor at Edgewood University, mentoring aspiring teachers and educational professionals.
Jamie is deeply invested in community leadership and service. He is an active member of the 100 Black Men of Madison, where he serves on the Board of Directors and as the organization’s Secretary, helping advance initiatives that empower youth through mentoring, education, and leadership development.
Above all, Jamie is most proud of his family. He is the husband of Kristina Sims, founder of Golden Soul Wisconsin, and the proud father of two daughters. His oldest daughter, Lilyana Sims, graduated from the University of Iowa in 2026, and his youngest daughter, Maleah Sims, graduated from Madison La Follette High School in 2026 and is attending the University of Wisconsin–Madison.
Throughout his career, Jamie has remained committed to empowering others through education, leadership, mentorship, and service. His passion for developing people and building strong communities continues to guide his work and inspire those around him.
