High School Course Descriptions
Check out our 2023-2024 course descriptions here

Brown Deer High School is a 9 – 12 grade educational facility which focuses on a rigorous academic curriculum. We offer the opportunity for all students to be successful in post high school careers.

Courses:
BDHS provides a scheduling process with a four-year sequence which builds a sturdy foundation that can be used for a successful post-secondary education and/or career.  Students are able to take courses based on their interests and possible career pathways.  To review high school pathway courses, please refer to our high school curriculum guide.

Schedule:
Brown Deer High School follows a block schedule.  Students have 8 classes per semester with four - 94 minute classes per day.

Graduation Requirements:
Students must earn a total of 25.0 credits at a minimum in order to graduate. Most students will acquire additional credits in areas of their interest.   The required credits can be reviewed here:  Credit Requirements for Graduation

Grading:
The grading system adopted in January 2022, was designed to communicate student performance, while at the same time reduce any inequities related to instructional access with our students.
Grade Level Reminders:
9th Grade
Focus on your classes, do your best, and reach out to teachers and counselors as needed! Your final grades as a freshman will be listed on your high school transcript and used to determine your Grade Point Average (GPA) and class rank.

Counselors meet with freshmen to discuss the 16 career clusters along with creating a 4-year plan for classes.

10th Grade
Counselors meet with sophomores to review transcripts, discuss post-secondary goals, talk about college entrance requirements, and prepare for future years. This is a great opportunity for students to start their post-secondary planning.

Start thinking about the ACT. Students will take the ACT at BDHS during junior year. All sophomores can start preparing this year with Methodize - BDHS students have free access online through Xello.
Xello Methodize Handout.

11th Grade
Counselors meet with each junior and their parents to discuss current high school progress as well as future goals.

All juniors take the statewide ACT in March at BDHS.
Preparing for the ACT Handout.
Xello Methodize Handout.

12th Grade
Whether you are preparing for college, the military, an apprenticeship, or something else - now is the time to plan for next year!  All seniors planning on attending college should submit college applications, create their FSA ID (do this step before the FAFSA application), and then fill out the FAFSA application (studentaid.gov).
