How Do i get my student involved?
This program is by teacher referral only! We often receive questions about why our program uses a teacher-referral model rather than open enrollment. The CLC is funded by the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI) through the 21st Century Community Learning Centers federal grant. To maintain this funding and stay within state and federal requirements, the district must prioritize students who:
Target Specific Academic Goals: Our grant requires us to serve students who would benefit most from additional, targeted support in reading and math.
Align with Classroom Learning: Teachers refer students so that after-school staff can coordinate directly with the school-day curriculum, ensuring that "fun" activities are also reinforcing the skills your child is learning in class.
Meet Capacity Mandates: The state sets strict "Average Daily Attendance" tiers. Because we have limited spots, the referral process serves as a "triage" to ensure these resources are directed to students identified as having the highest need for intervention and support.
CLC Daily Schedule (Mondays-Thursdays)
- 3:30 PM: Students dismissed from classrooms → meet in the cafeteria for snack
- 4:00 PM: 20-minute outdoor recess with their CLC teacher
- After recess: Bathroom break → academic enrichment & STEAM activities
- 5:25 PM: Dismissal in front of the school
- 6:00 PM pick-up option: Return to cafeteria for SEL play with Ms. Nelson
