The School District of Brown Deer values the development of students both in their academic and personal pursuits. One of the ways we support this growth is through Academic and Career Planning (ACP). ACP is intended to equip students and their families with the tools necessary to make more informed choices about postsecondary education, training, and careers for life after high school. The School District of Brown Deer implements Academic and Career Planning for students through:
Valuable experiences for exploration, development, and engagement in career options.
Access to rigorous and relevant high school and college coursework to prepare students for college, vocational training, military, or employment.
Students have opportunities to engage in academic and career planning while in middle school and high school. These experiences include, but are not limited to:
Students will have the opportunity to attend career-focused field trips
Students will have the opportunity to interact with career speakers both in the professional and school environment

How do students engage in the ACP Process?
ACP is an empowering process that encourages students to take ownership of their future and create an informed vision for post-secondary success. By engaging in self-exploration, career exploration, and the development of career management and planning skills, students can take meaningful steps toward achieving their goals. The Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (http://dpi.wi.gov/acp) mandates that public school districts provide ACP services to students in grades 6 through 12 per the PI26 legislation. These requirements are designed to connect districts' Education for Employment (E4E) programs with the new ACP guidelines. The School District of Brown Deer offers a comprehensive ACP program that aligns with the current E4E law and the Wisconsin Comprehensive School Counseling Model (WCSCM). Our program provides ample opportunities for self-exploration, career exploration, and career planning and management activities.

Xello
Xello is an engaging online program that equips students with the knowledge, skills, and plans they need to thrive in the future. Students can access a wealth of tools within the platform. Parents can request an electronic invitation to create a Xello account for their child through their student services office. Check out this guide for more information on setting up a parent account. For additional details, speak with your student’s counselor. Some Xello activities have already been completed by students, while others will be introduced in future lessons. Observing your student's progress in Xello can spark great conversations between you and your child!
